why do you need a cooling pad? what benefit is there to cool your laptop down. is there really any risk that they will overheat just doing normal laptop computer things with the laptop? will it make laptop run better?

They get hot and stuff melts, and it is less hot on your legs

you do not need one, they are just something to waste your money on

They’re garbage. The manufacturer is trying to rip you off. They have performed their tests in an atypical environment (i.e. locked in a car with the heater on full blast on a 110 degree day wrapped in a fiberglass blanket lined with aluminum). Chances are you could go on without one and your laptop will be just fine.

Laptops do not have room for the large cooling fans like a desktop PC. Although your laptop may not overheat if you use it on a hard flat surface that allows good air circulation, a cooling pad will help prolong its life.

The people I work with have those.I only keep my laptop at home But I have to make sure it has good ventilation or it WILL shut down.Im in a hotel room now and have newspaper under it so it doesn’t sink down in the comforter or it will get hot and shut down.I’m only guessing , that’s the problem with mine but it seems to work…….

Well not only does my laptop get hot (Gateway) but I just found out that I am going to have to replace my battery (CND$150.00).
What I learned is that Lithium Ion batteries will burn out quicker if they are discharged at higher temperatures. So keeping the underside of your laptop can save wear & tear on your Li-ion battery.
Also it is fairly common knowledge that your CPU chip needs to be kept as cool as possible, & will last longer if it is kept cool.

I don’t know about you but I have found that my laptop can’t stay on MY lap for very long because of the heat it generates, so I am giving serious consideration to one of those cooling thingies for my laptop as well.

Depends on what kind of Laptop you are using. If you are using a Ultra Portable which would have minimum processing power then there is no need for Cooling Pads.

But if you have the Desktop Replacement kind of Laptops then you definitely need the Colling PAD’s.

It would definitely help you in the long run. And using a cooling pad would increase the life of the Laptop since its run in a relatively low temperature.
