My laptop keeps over-heating and shutting itself off, even with a chill pad.?

Marvinator May 3, 2010 at 10:47 am: Most likely the internal fans are allowing the chip to overheat. The system will shut down at that point.

For instance, Macbooks were having this issue for a while and it was fixed w/ a firmware update (lowered temperature threshold of the machine).

Assuming it is not a Macbook, then your CPU fan might be dead and needs to be replaced.

Take it to a certified technician who can diagnose and repair it for you. Your problem will not go away if it is indeed overheating.
