Would buying a laptop cooling pad help my Dell make less noise?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1440. Everything about it is great except for the noisy fan. If I bought a laptop cooling pad like this one http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Notebook-Cooling-Pad-N100/dp/B001U3ZH7W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1259871255&sr=8-1, would it help in my goal of making my laptop a quieter machine? At this rate, when I take it to class, I’m afraid I’ll get tons of dirty looks.

If the cooling pad won’t work, is there anything inexpensive that I can do?

Have fan replaced before it fails. ~

No. In fact, adding MORE fans will only increase the amount of noise. You will still have the noise from your fan, plus you will have the additional noise from the fans on the cooling pad.

What you *should* do is get your fan taken care of, rather than trying to find ways of getting around the problem. If your laptop is still on warranty, then send it back to Dell to have the cooling channel cleaned and the fan replaced. If it is off warranty, then take it to a local computer repair shop for the same thing… a good internal cleaning and a new fan.

end of line

Just how noisy is this? my laptop has 3 internal cooling fans and it can make quite some noise when they’re all operating at max, but it’s still not enough to get looks from the people around.

Are you sure your cooling fan is working as it should? has it always sounded like that? I’m thinking that perhaps it is not working properly anymore.

If the fan is allright, getting a cooling pad will help improve your computer’s durability by keeping the components cooler. However, keep in mind that cooling pads normally have one or more large fans that sometimes can make a lot of noise. This depends on the manufacturer, the cooling pad model, and the type of laptop it was designed for. I think your best bet here is to do an online search for reviews on silent cooling pads. You can find such reviews in sites related to computing or tech gadgets in general.

So, the cooling pad will most likely make even more noise. If your computer does get quite hot, however, it might be a good investment.

Well, fan makes noise when the laptop become hot and need to be cool down.
the fan runs very slowly but when the temperature goes up (become HOT) then the fan runs faster then normal, to maintain the laptops’ temperature.

Now if you buy the cooling pad this will keep your laptop cool and the fan will then make not noise by running fast.

BUT i want you check your laptops fan first. either it makes sounds after a little usage of laptop or as you turn it it star making noise.
if it start making noise on its start then you better get your LAPTOP checked.
